What is Sex Therapy?
Sex therapy is a talk-based form of counselling that focuses on intimacy, connection, and your overall sense of sexual wellbeing.
There are no physical exams or medical procedures. Instead, sessions are centred around conversation, helping you make sense of patterns, experiences, and feelings that may be affecting your relationship with intimacy.
Sex therapy can support things like:
- Differences in desire or libido
- Feeling distant or disconnected from your partner
- Pressure or anxiety around intimacy
- Struggling to express needs or boundaries
- Life changes that impact your relationship (stress, parenting, health)
- Rebuilding closeness after conflict or betrayal
- Making sense of your relationship with sexuality
- Sexual anxiety or shame around intimacy
- Painful intimacy or physical discomfort during sex
- Erectile or orgasm concerns
- Exploring identity or relationship dynamics
For many people, this becomes a place to slow down, understand what’s been happening, and begin to feel more at ease again. Sex therapy is available virtually and in-person for adults and couples across Ontario
How Sex Therapy Can Help
A lot of people come to sex therapy not because something is “broken,” but because something doesn’t feel quite right anymore.
At Stone Silo, we take the time to understand what that experience has been like for you, without rushing or making assumptions.
In sessions, you may:
- Talk more openly about intimacy and what’s been difficult
- Understand where disconnection may be coming from
- Work through stress, anxiety, or past experiences that are getting in the way
- Rebuild trust, comfort, and closeness
- Find simple, practical ways to reconnect
If you’re already in relationship counselling, sex therapy can build on that work and support a deeper sense of connection, especially when intimacy has become difficult or distant.

Sex Therapy FAQs
What does a sex therapist do?
A sex therapist helps individuals and couples talk through concerns related to intimacy, connection, and sexual wellbeing in a supportive and respectful space.
Do I need to be in a relationship?
No. Sex therapy can be helpful whether you’re in a relationship or not.
Is sex therapy only about physical intimacy?
No. Much of the work focuses on emotional connection, communication, and understanding what may be affecting your experience of intimacy.
What if I feel uncomfortable talking about this?
That’s very common. You won’t be pushed to share anything before you’re ready, and sessions will move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you’re hoping for. Some people come for a short period, while others prefer ongoing support.
