About Alyssa Strachan

Alyssa has always been drawn to people’s stories: their strengths, struggles, identities, and the moments that shape who they are. As a Registered Psychotherapist serving Waterloo, she brings warmth, curiosity, and openness to every session, often greeted by her big, easy smile and the beloved shark slippers that add a touch of lightness to her office. Her goal is to meet clients exactly where they are and walk with them through reflection, self-discovery, and meaningful change.

Alyssa works with children as young as 3, as well as teens and adults up to age 35. She offers both talk therapy and play-based approaches, tailoring treatment to each client’s needs, comfort, and learning style. Alyssa incorporates a wide variety of expressive tools, including art, sand tray work, and Tabletop RPG therapy using the Game to Grow method, a dynamic, engaging therapeutic modality inspired by Dungeons & Dragons.

She is a neurodivergent-affirming and 2SLGBTQIA+ friendly therapist, committed to creating a space where every person feels respected and supported. Outside of individual sessions, Alyssa also facilitates therapeutic role-playing groups that support emotional regulation, identity exploration, problem-solving, and social skill development.
